CARRIACOU HEALTH SERVICES

MAIN STREET, HILLSBOROUGH

CARRIACOU, GRENADA

First, let me introduce myself, I am Dr. Carol McIntosh, a board-certified physician and one of the three founders of Carriacou Health Services (CHS) Health Center which includes Mr. Leo Joseph and Dr. Joseph McAuley. Saturday, July 29th, 2006 is significant because it is one year to the day of the opening of the Health Center. What an accomplishment! At times, it seemed it would not happen and even after opening it seemed as if what we looked to accomplish would not occur. We are not where we wanted to be but we are on the road which is winding and bumpy and continuing to move forward. All that has been accomplished could not have occurred without the Grace of God and the prayers and support of so many people. A special Thank You is extended to all who assisted us throughout the years to reach this point. A world of thanks to our staff, Ms. Sheena Bristol, Ms. Pamela Collins, Ms. Valerie Jerome, Ms. Louise Mott and Mr. Theo Jerome and to all those who have worked with us over the last year for periods of time.

In reflecting on the past year, we have been on an uphill journey with some setbacks at times and some accomplishments as well. At the opening, we described the development of the center in terms of pregnancy and delivery. We also noted that a newborn needs nurturing to grow and support to reach its goals. At this time CHS is taking its first steps without holding on. We may fall once or twice but we are not afraid to get back up and continue on our path. As one African proverb states, “It takes a Village to raise a child” please be a part of that Village and continue supporting us in our growth. What follows next is an outline of our accomplishments since opening.

The Mission of CHS is to provide quality, compassionate healthcare services to the people of Grenada, Carriacou, Petite Martinique, the Grenadines and Worldwide that embrace our values of quality, human dignity and community.

CHS was founded in 2003, we broke ground October 2003 and despite two hurricanes opened on July 29th, 2005, saw our first patients August 5th, 2005 and had our first delivery at the center, a baby boy, on August 13th, 2005.

CHS consists of two floors. The Health Center, located on the first floor, provides affordable, high quality, comprehensive health care and support services. On the second floor, we have a Multipurpose room for conferences, receptions, shows, etc and a Health and Fitness Center with showers, lockers and a Massage and Facial room.

In addition to meeting the primary care needs by providing adult medicine, pediatric, obstetrical, gynecological and laboratory services, we also offer a comprehensive range of services on a rotating basis and we work with the Princess Royale Hospital providing medical equipment and medical consultation to the hospital as needed.
