HAPPENINGS AT CARRIACOU HEALTH SERVICES NOVEMBER 2008
Once again, we welcomed a Medical Team to CHS for various days over the period of November 1 – 15th, 2008. This visit was made possible through the generous support of The Ashby Windward Foundation, under the leadership of Dr. Christofer Ashby. The Ashby Windward Foundation is underwriting the surgery for patients with financial hardships and in need of surgery and providing the financial assistance to provide oncological consultative services, surgical, and cardiology services to the Cancer Treatment Program and patients based at the General Hospital in St. George’s, Grenada. In addition to the Ashby Windward Foundation, we received assistance from Mr. Edward Kent, The Roundhouse Restaurant in Bogles, Carriacou, Ms. Carolyn Alexander and Mr. Cuthbert Snagg.

Thanks to the Visiting Medical Team, our sponsors and the staff at Carriacou Health Services we were able to surgically treat 14 patients; via cases such as, hysterectomy, circumcision, breast reduction, hernia repair, and removal of urethral diverticulum; evaluate 47 cardiology patients (16 based in Grenada) including 4 who underwent Cardiac stress tests, 28 urology patients (8 based in Grenada) including 3 who underwent prostate biopsies to rule out cancer; 14 plastic surgery consults (11 based in Grenada) on patients who underwent mastectomies for breast cancer; 23 gynecology oncology consultations (15 based in Grenada); and 18 social service consultations(8 based in Grenada). The experience this year clearly demonstrates a demand for the specialist services provided by the team and we hope to be able to continue to bring a similar team of clinicians to Carriacou each year.
Carriacou Health Services offers on-going medical services in Carriacou which include adult, pediatric and ob/gyn services, prenatal care and delivery, laboratory services, X-ray and mammography services and colonoscopy services.
